Join Us In Orlando For Our 10th National Conference

What better location for our 10th National Conference than Orlando, Florida - the place where dreams come true!  This year's conference theme, Dare To Dream, speaks to both the guests we serve and to the staff and volunteers who make sure families are accessing the resources they need to succeed.  Join together with hundreds of leaders from Affiliates across the country to share expertise on fulfilling our mission.  The Conference will offer tailored workshops and plenary sessions geared toward providing the tools and knowledge Family Promise leaders need to realize their dreams for ending homelessness and alleviating poverty one family at a time.

The National Conference is designed to enhance the professional development of Affiliate leaders.  From workshops on cultivating youth groups, successful online fundraising, and securing a place at the local Continuum of Care to sessions on developing housing and accessing employment opportunities for guests, the Conference will offer insights and best practices into making the most of your local network of support and talent.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Christine Pohl, Professor of Church in Society, Asbury Theological Seminary, and author of Making Room: Recovering Hospitality as a Christian Tradition is our Conference keynote speaker. Her insightful book reminds us that Family Promise harkens back to the original intent of hospitality in welcoming strangers and providing safe shelter, sustenance and fellowship in their time of need.  Dr. Pohl will discuss her views on the practice of hospitality as a faith tenet and the role of community in strengthening and sustaining family.

Providing a closing keynote will be Wintley Phipps.  Mr. Phipps is a world-renowned gospel singer, education advocate, and motivational speaker. He has been a featured speaker and performer for many notable occasions around the world including the Billy Graham Crusades, the Oprah Winfrey Show, Day of Discovery, his 2009 Easter special No Need to Fear on PBS television, and has performed for the presidential inaugurations of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.

We are also excited to announce that Ken Medema will be providing a concert for us on Friday night.  Mr. Medema has been singing over 32 years in every venue imaginable for 50 - 50,000 people, from churches to conventions to colleges to corporations. Using his gift of improvisation, Medema hears with his heart and sings the stories back to audiences of all ages. He has produced a CD especially for Family Promise and has performed at several Affiliate events across the country.

Additionally, there is the exciting Saturday evening event at the groove, in the heart of Universal’s CityWalk, the interfaith worship service and workshops led by Family Promise pros and outside experts in non-profit governance, including Family Promise’s very own alumni, Diana DeJesus-Medina.

Start your Conference planning today, and remember that there will be sessions for staff, board members and volunteers so be sure to pass this information on to your board members and coordinators.  Please join us as we gather together to renew old acquaintances, make new friends, and celebrate our successes of this past year.
