Family Promise Welcomes a New Affiliate: South Palm Beach County, FL

While among the wealthiest counties in the nation, South Palm Beach County has upwards of ten thousand homeless individuals, including several thousand members of families with children. With few options for homeless families, the new Affiliate is eager to help meet the need for shelter, with its day center at St. Vincent Ferrer Church and eight other congregations serving as hosts. Executive director Kokie Dinnan is a Florida native with a long background in social services and working with children.

The Affiliate quickly received a number of referrals from the local school board and took in its first family on November 2, a mother and her daughter, a senior in high school. St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton served as the first host congregation, offering them their first good night’s sleep in a long while. While mom’s challenge is to find a new job and housing, the daughter, an excellent student, is looking ahead to college. Everyone at Family Promise of South Palm Beach County is eager to help both mom and daughter regain their footing and move on to a brighter future.
