Family Promise of Salem County is the 15th Affiliate in the Garden State. There is no shelter for families in this rural county of 65,000 people, with those needing services having to turn to the state of Delaware or neighboring NJ counties for help.

The Affiliate opened with 11 host congregations, and funding from individuals, congregations and a number of successful events, including an antique bridal gown show and gospel choir festival. The day center is at the rectory for Queen of the Apostles Church in Pennsville. The director is Brenda Hecker, who not only has a long history in social and educational services in the county, but also had been a board member for neighboring Gloucester County’s Affiliate.
