Welcome to Family Promise Chicago
North Shore,
our first Affiliate in the state of Illinois. FPCNS encompasses the Evanston,
Winnetka, Wilmette and Skokie areas along the
shores of Lake Michigan, just north of the city of Chicago.
The Board President is Brek Peterson, a former volunteer at our Worcester, MA Affiliate. In 2008, he identified a need in this affluent area, as most families in-need were being sent to Chicago for services, and led the development efforts. The network hired Rebecca Lillian, an ordained rabbi who had been involved with our Northwest Philadelphia network as well as working with children at-risk.
The network comprises ten hosts, with Temple Jeremiah serving as the first host upon opening. The day center is a converted commercial building shared with an agency, central in Evanston. FPCNS’s first family came to the program when the father lost his construction job due to the economy. They had been living in motels, burning through their sporadic income. The family has thrived and the program’s connections have already borne fruit—a retired pre-school teacher was able to secure free childcare for their younger daughter.Best wishes to the Land of Lincoln.
